"Alternative Reality" is a two—day exhibition of contemporary art in the building of the future shelter and counseling center for homeless people. The exhibition is accompanied by a parallel program: A number of cultural events will take place in the area of the Belorussky railway station, where the shelter is located, some of the events will take place in an online format.
The Thursday Cultural Projects Foundation and curator Katya Finkelstein invite you to the opening of the Alternative Reality exhibition, which will take place after the removal of epidemiological restrictions.
About the project:
The creators of the project use the term "alternative reality" as a metaphor for social exclusion: homeless people are often excluded from the public field and seem to exist in another world. The future shelter of the Nochlezhka charitable organization will become a space for artistic research as a portal to another reality.
The project involves the search for a new language and aesthetics for an open dialogue about different forms of alternative realities in our society. How does the transition process work? Why do we create these imperceptible but strong boundaries between different psycho-social spaces? What taboos govern us today?
The exhibition presents the works of 28 artists and cultural figures working with various media: painting, graphics, sculpture, video art, installations, VR, AR, interactive and sound installations, performance.
Visitors will explore alternative social realities accompanied by Thursday Foundation mediators.
